The Conflict Over the Strait of Hormuz

What happened 

So, I already did a post on the US’s attacks on Iran, but I feel like we need a recap. The US bombed Iran for the purpose of taking out their nuclear program. Was there no legal excuse for this? No. Was there any immediate threat from Iran? No. So, consequently, Iran used it’s one piece of leverage. The Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of the world’s oil goes through. This spiked gas prices all over the world, especially in the US, and lowered Trump’s approval ratings dramatically. Trump did what he knew best. He threatened them. He said they would be ‘living in hell’ and posted an incredibly explicit social media that broke countless norms for any sitting president including being explicit. Eventually, the US moved in with their Navy.  The Navy began a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz that stopped ships from going in or out of Iran. This further impacted oil prices. During a lot of this, Iran and the US were in peace talks, but as of now, they have failed and everything seems to be up in the air. 

My take

It is a bad situation, but the US is not allowed to complain. We bombed them, killed their people and they used the one major piece of leverage they had. The Strait of Hormuz. Of course they did. We are now allowed to be like ‘how dare you retaliate in some way after we attacked you first. You are now horrible people for not sitting there and taking it while we get to seem as though we are so big and strong.’ That is not how the world works. Now, do I support any side in this conflict. No. Do I agree with Iran’s dictatorship. No. I feel as though this is one of those things where no side is right, and neither can see that they must take some responsibility because they are too focused on what the other side did. They are behaving like my 8-year-old twin brothers. That is how mature they are behaving. So yeah, the future looks bright when a country with nukes has the maturity of an 8-year-old.
