GOP Senators Stand Up To Trump

What Happened:
Last week, Republicans in the Senate took a stand against Trump’s proposed 1.8 billion dollar ‘anti weaponization’ fund. The bill was originally just to fund ICE and border patrol, but after passing the House, the administration added a 1.8-billion-dollar fund. Republican senators broke from their party and voted against it going through. The fund was for the DOJ to compensate people who were allegedly prosecuted by the DOJ because of political bias during the Biden administration. This includes almost everyone MAGA and possibly those who participated in the January 6th riots. This is after everyone was already pardoned by
Trump.
Why did the senators break:
Defying Trump is no small deed. It is known that those who try it are targeted and ostracized by the DOJ and the party. So why did they do it? I do not know the full answer but I can make some predictions. First, the bill was very vaguely worded. It was not clear who the money was going to, and how they would be picked. It sounded a lot like a slush fund in which Trump could give a payout to his closest allies. Second, it was taxpayer money. This just simply raised the stakes, as 1.8 billion dollars is a lot. Todd Blanche, the acting attorney general and the person currently attempting to defend the bill, was not able to reduce their concerns. And because he could not clearly show the senators how this was going to be managed with care and caution, it likely heightened their wariness.
My Take:
I am very happy. I am glad to know that there is still a distinction between Republicans and MAGA, and that when push comes to shove, they will split not combine. It is good that the bill itself has been put on pause, we don't need people getting money for committing crimes, and it certainly doesn’t need to be coming out of taxpayers’ pockets. All in all, this is something positive.
